Campground discovery for the US

The opportunity
The Dyrt is the largest source of campground information in the United States, built by a large community posting photos, reviews and tips. For years it lived only on the web, which left a gap for the people who needed it most: travellers on their phones in remote areas, often with little reception. The opportunity was the company's first iOS and Android apps, built from the ground up.
Our response
We shaped the mobile architecture and the core experience for low-connectivity and offline use, drawing on the existing web platform while rethinking the flow for how people actually plan and navigate trips. We set the performance benchmarks for a greenfield React Native build across iOS and Android, integrated GIS mapping with campground content in one responsive interface, and introduced patterns the in-house team could build on as the product grew.
Impact
The performance benchmarks set during the build supported strong App Store ratings at launch. The architecture has scaled with the platform, and the mapping experience remains central to how people use The Dyrt. The patterns established here still inform how we approach mobile and mapping work today.
